Transformice Questions

When did you start playing Transformice? How did you find it?
It was around September of 2010. I saw a post on reddit.com about Transformice... which I believe was in /r/gaming. I remember the post was a screenshot of Tigrounette announcing that portals and the miner cap would be removed due to Valve suing them... which was a joke obviously. After I read the comments on the post... I decided to try it out.

How did you get involved with the Transformice staff?
I was making bots for the game before I was mod. I kept it a secret because it only recorded stats in room reddit, so mods didn't have a problem with it (they didn't know about it). But I also made the standalone that was getting popular beyond just the reddit community that played the game. Reciprocal (which as a mod at the time) contacted me about my standalone and eventually we started a project of making bots for the game. I eventually was putting a lot of work into the bootcamp bot because they became very popular. Eventually I asked for a way to work on the bots and test them directly (a mod account only for a bot). Since they trusted me enough to have a mod account for a bot... I was asked if I would like to also moderate the game, which I accepted.

How long have you been a mod?
Since early November of 2010.

What are your favorite shop items?
There's really nothing that I absolutely must wear. I loved the idea of the deadmau5 hat but for some reason I just don't like how it looks on my mouse. I do like the 3d glasses a lot though.

What is the best excuse you've heard from someone asking for an unban?
I don't recall any good excuses... they are usually just the typical ones like "I'll never do it again, I SWEAR!" or "My brother/sister/roomate hacked, it wasn't me!".

Any memorable moments from Transformice?
Any of the birthday parties with 100+ mice are always fun. The lag is crazy but it's just so chaotic that you have to enjoy it.

Favorite aspect of TFM?
Anything except farming. I just can't have fun trying farm firsts at all. I really don't see how people can spend hours doing that.

How long did it take you to learn how to wall jump? (be honest :p)
When I first started... I didn't become addicted right away. I'd usually play 30 minutes or so every few days. I figured I'd get bored fast... but I ended up enjoying it, the more I played it. So it probably took me around a week or two to get decent at walljumping. It took me a little longer to get good at walljumping with cheese... Actually, the first thing I created for Transformice was a walljump "script". I coded it in C# and that was basically what started my standalone. I made the walljump code... then decided to throw the actual game into the program so I could run the game along with the walljump program. It was actually easier for me to just perfect my walljump technique than trying to get the walljump script perfect. So I just ended up not bothering with it anymore.

Favorite/least favorite part of being a mod?
My favorite thing would be making new things for the game. I love to help improve games in any way I can. I like being creative and thinking of new things for players to enjoy about this game. I also try to listen to everyone's opinion and I do offer a lot of their suggestions directly to Tig or Meli... I really think it take a whole community to create a great game, so I try to make sure player's voices are heard. So I really enjoy being a mod because of that, since I'm able to influence the game in that way.

The least favorite part is probably just how much being a mod can feel like a job sometimes.

In your professional moderator opinion, who is a better player: Meli or Tig?
I've pretty much only seen Tig troll... so it's hard to judge how well she plays. But she is a great troll! I've seen Meli get a few firsts before, so I've actually seen her play. So I guess it would be Meli.

What is the origin of your username?
There was an episode of Space Ghost: Coast to Coast about the Baffler Meal... I always thought it was hilarious and eventually used Baffler as an online alias a long time ago.

WASD or arrow keys?
It's actually kind of weird... I use both. I'm just so used to playing FPS games... that it feels wrong to play a game with only 1 hand. I like jumping with my right hand (up arrow) and moving with my left hand (A, S, D).

What is your favorite bot that you created?
I think my favorite would be the bootcamp bot because it was the first one I made and it got really, really popular. I had the most fun working on that because it was so unexpected for me, that it would be that successful.

What are the weirdest whispers you've gotten in game?
I added this category because I get a LOT of weird/interesting whispers. I've had a player ask me how to obtain "baffler points". I've had quite a few players ask me to be the person to wed them (like to be the mouse priest for their wedding). And I also get a few whispers asking If I want to date them or marry them.

Tell us more about these "Baffler points" How does one earn them? :p
I never heard of "Baffler points" until that whisper... but I guess if I invented them, I think I'd give them out to people who gave me any type of compliment.

Is there a special map for weddings? Wedding shop items coming soon? :D Have you taken any of the offers given to you? :p
There's no special map that I know of. Maybe there should be because I've had that asked of me a few times now... Wedding shop items would be neat, I'll suggest it :)
I've never offered my services for marriage... but maybe in the future if I'm in the right mood I might. The only thing interesting that I've done that someone asked of me was to be in a music video.

What was your favorite TV show as a kid?
Any of the awesome Saturday Morning cartoons. Reboot, Sonic AM. I also loved Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Programming

What kind of projects do you program outside of TFM?
Really, not anything right now. All my projects are Transformice related because it takes up all my free time. In the past, I have made other programs. I think my first one was an IRC client. That was probably 8 years ago at least. I have tried making some games but I usually don't get them completed because I lose interest. I just can't seem to force myself to finish anything unless I'm completed interested in it.

What is some of your favorite music?
Electronica, nerdcore, some classical, almost anything really.

What junk food are you guilty of indulging on?
I think it would be easier to list what junk I haven't indulged on...
